Why Your Body Is Not a Problem to Manage — A Case for Bodywork, Self-Love & Choosing Yourself First
June 2026 | Carly Whitington
There's a particular kind of exhaustion that has nothing to do with sleep.
It lives in the shoulders that haven't fully dropped in months. In the jaw you hold tight without realising. In the breath that never quite reaches the bottom of your lungs. In the way you move through your days efficient, capable, functioning and yet somehow feel increasingly far from yourself.
Most of us have learned to manage this feeling. To push through it, schedule around it, reward it with a glass of wine on a Friday evening and call it self-care. We have become remarkably good at maintaining ourselves on the surface while quietly abandoning the deeper conversation our bodies have been trying to have with us for years.
This post is an invitation back into that conversation.
The Body Keeps the Score — And It's Patient
Your body remembers everything. Every period of stress you white-knuckled through. Every grief you didn't quite have time to feel. Every season you put yourself last because someone or something else needed you more. It doesn't forget, and it doesn't judge it simply holds, quietly and faithfully, until you're ready to listen.
This is not a metaphor. It is physiology. The nervous system stores unprocessed experiences as physical tension, postural patterns, and chronic holding and until that holding is addressed directly, through the body itself, it tends to remain. You can think your way to many things. You cannot think your way out of what your body is carrying.
This is precisely why bodywork is not a luxury. It is not a treat you earn after a particularly hard week or a gift you justify on special occasions. It is maintenance — the same category as sleep, movement, and nourishment for the one body you will ever inhabit.
Self-Love Is Not a Feeling. It's a Decision.
We have complicated self-love into something almost unreachable a permanent glowing state of acceptance and grace that arrives once we've done enough work, lost enough weight, achieved enough, healed enough.
In reality, self-love looks far more ordinary than that. It looks like booking the appointment you've been putting off for three months. It looks like choosing to lie down on a treatment table and allow someone skilled to care for you, without guilt, without rushing, without mentally composing your to-do list for the following morning.
It looks like deciding quietly, firmly, and repeatedly that your body deserves attention before it reaches crisis point. Not when the tension becomes pain. Not when the exhaustion becomes burnout. Now.
That decision, made consistently, is what self-love actually is. Not a feeling you wait for. A practice you choose.
What Bodywork Actually Does
People often arrive at their first session expecting relaxation and they find something deeper than they anticipated.
When the body is held with skill, presence, and intention, something in the nervous system begins to trust. Muscles that have been braced for impact for years start to soften. Breath deepens without effort. Emotions surface — sometimes unexpectedly, sometimes quietly because the body finally has permission to release what the mind has been too busy to process.
This is the work I do here in the 7ème. Whether it's a deeply technical lymphatic or deep tissue massage, a Lomi Lomi session that moves like water, or a Spinal Energetics session that works directly with your nervous system and energetic field — every modality I offer is rooted in the same core belief: that your body is not a problem to be managed. It is an intelligence to be listened to.
The results clients describe go beyond relaxation. Better sleep within days. A sense of spaciousness in the chest that wasn't there before. Decisions made more easily. Relationships that feel less charged. A quietness in the body that feels, for the first time in a long time, like home.
Why Paris, Why Now
There is something interesting happening in this city right now. Paris has always known how to live beautifully but a growing number of people here are moving beyond the external rituals of bien-être and asking a deeper question: not just how do I look after myself, but how do I actually come home to myself?
It's a question I hear in my studio every week. From expats navigating the particular loneliness of building a life in a new country. From high-functioning professionals who realise, somewhere in the middle of an otherwise ordinary session, that they haven't felt truly at rest in years. From women who have spent so long caring for everyone else that receiving care simple, skilled, unhurried care brings them to unexpected tears.
If any of this resonates, I want you to know: that resonance is not a coincidence. It is your body, recognising something it already knows.
A Note on Prioritising Yourself Without Apology
If you've read this far and already feel the quiet pull of "yes, but I don't have time" or "yes, but it's expensive" or "yes, but I'll book it next month" I want to gently name that for what it is.
It is not practicality. It is a pattern.
The body you are living in right now is the only one you will ever have. Not the body you'll have once things calm down, once the project is finished, once the children are older, once you feel ready. This one. Now.
Prioritising it is not selfish. It is the most responsible thing you can do — for yourself, and for everyone whose life you touch.
Ready to Begin?
Sessions are available in-person here in the 7ème, and online for those outside Paris.
Whether you're curious about Spinal Energetics, looking for a deeply restorative massage, or simply want to feel at home in your body again — the door is open.
As always, if you have questions before booking, send me a message on WhatsApp I'm always happy to talk you through what to expect.
À très bientôt, Carly 🤍
My Approach
Every session is led with a deep awareness and presence. The client is to feel safe and secure to move through what is called in the moment, with the removal of judgement and shame. This is my soul purpose, my gift of having the capacity to hold space and guide those through their unique journeys.
POST SESSION;
There will always be an integration period, to which you will always hear from me personally towards the end to discuss your integration of the work, and I am always available for questions or advice thereafter.
PLEASE NOTE:
This is not a one session fix. This is commitment to self. You cannot go to the gym and get a six pack first time! This is language and practice talking to your nervous system and requires commitment and an unwavering promise to yourself, for this is self love!
